History

The Montgomery County Action Council and Coffeyville Community College initially organized this community leadership development program.

Funding was provided primarily by the Coffeyville City Industrial Levy funds and a Gannett grant, with additional funding provided from tuition and contributions.

An independent organization directed by a nine member board, plus a broad-based resource membership of sixteen community representatives, was formed in January, 1987. Twenty individuals were selected to participate in the charter class that met from March through October, 1987.

Within three months of graduation, increased involvement in the community was reflected by an average 2.2 new community leadership positions per graduate. Since 1987, Leadership Coffeyville classes have produced over 400 graduates who are ready to serve their community and who are dedicated to the future of Coffeyville.
